This State Election – Vote for Horses!

A State election will occur during March 2010 in South Australia. This is everybody’s opportunity to vote for horses! There are a range of issues which can combine to have an effect at the Polling Booth.

These issues are canvassed from our members and horse owners who visit the Horse SA website. Early issues are:

1. Commit to working with all stakeholders to see the State Horse Centre Precinct to fruition

2. Support/faciliate and provide a better platform for encouraging major events, conferences and functions to SA
which are run by not-for-profits. Including coordination of sharing of state infrastructure items, reduced
fees or fee subsidies for hire of sites etc.

3. Provide a significant funds injection into recreational trails

4. Continue to leverage funds into regional infrastructure such a showgrounds & racecourses

5. Invest in Biosecurity

6. Facilitate Planning to ensure there are rural living allotments, linking networks of open space and horse
keeping precincts supported

7. Increase funding for road safety education for vulnerable users (which includes horse riders)& work with
Horse SA to secure new editions to the Australian Road Rules to gain a multi-use corridor recognition, to
add to the existing walk/cycle rules.

8. Invest in research

Local issues can also be raised with your local MP or candidate.

Horse SA has written to all Members of Parliament and invited input. The major party Recreation and Sport policies will also be placed online as they become available.

NOTE: Any comments provided on this website from Parties are not the comments of Horse SA, however being an “A-Political” organisation, we are providing the best service to members that we can through providing all candidates an opportunity to put their election case forward.

A GREEN VOTE FOR HORSES

Horses and riding are a wonderful part of the culture and heritage of South Australia, From trialling, eventing and racing to the little Shetlands we dreamed of as children, we would be much poorer without our horses and horsey community.
The GreensSA acknowledge the needs of the community for appropriate funding and legislative reform to maximise both access and enjoyment of horses and horseriding.

The Greens will:

  • Support the building of the State Horse Centre.
  • Support increased funding for recreational trails.
  • Public liability issues surrounding sports service providers are still uncertain. The
Greens believe that the Government needs to clarify the rights and responsibilities
of sports service providers and their customers through Regulations. Parliament
has the right to disallow Regulations that are unfair or unworkable
  • Work to end jumps racing in SA and thereby greatly reduce unnessesary trauma and death for racehorses.
